Marketers are always pushing themselves to create more.
Creating more content. Creating more campaigns.
More everything in the hopes of driving more results.
But here is the thing, creating is hard. Creating takes time. And simply creating more is probably the hardest path to getting more results.
Plus, what usually happens when you are constantly pushing for more output from the marketing team is that the output suffers. The content becomes less engaging, the campaigns get less thought out and as a result the performance drops.
Want to know the easiest path? The quickest path?
Master the way in which you distribute. And I don’t mean just share your blog posts on Linkedin.
You need to master how to engage your audience and view every touch point as an opportunity for something else. The concept is called building engagement loops and it’s the secret sauce of any high performing marketing team. Here are 3 great engagement loop examples for your content which you can start using today.
Newsletters to Social & Vice Versa:
Step 1: Within your newsletters, throw in a CTA for readers to hop onto your social channels. A simple CTA like, “Liked what you read? Show the love by liking or sharing this post for me!” can work wonders.
Step 2: Now, on your social media post that you are asking people to engage on, redirect the traffic back to your newsletter. “Want more insights like this? Subscribe to our newsletter for exclusive content!” Eddie Shleyner of Very Good Copy has mastered this tactic and there is a fantastic break down of his approach here.
The result: You drive your email subscribers to your social channels to boost your content, opening yourself up to their audiences which in turn drives growth of your subscribers.
Amplify In-Person Events via Social through your audience:
Step 1: If you’re presenting or speaking at an event, use that platform to amplify your reach online. Ask your audience during the presentation: "Share one insight from today's talk on LinkedIn and tag me. In return, I’ll send you an exclusive piece of content (or a handy resource)." The key is to make the ask simple and easy so a lot of people will do it.
Step 2: Once the social posts come flooding in, not only do you enjoy enhanced visibility but you can also use that "social proof" as leverage to book more speaking engagements.
Podcasts to Blogs & Back Again:
Step 1: Create podcasts on trending topics or appear on other peoples podcasts to do in-depth interviews. At the end of the episode, guide your listeners to a detailed blog post for more depth or a different perspective on the same subject.
Step 2: Now, in your blog posts, add a small section mentioning, "Want to hear more about this? Check out our podcast episode featuring [Guest Name/Topic].” The key here is to give readers and listeners a reason to jump between platforms. For instance, the blog might cover the ‘what’ and ‘why’, while the podcast delves into the ‘how’.
The beauty of engagement loops lies in their ability to turn isolated content pieces into interconnected webs of engagement. These are just 3 examples of how to get a lot a more out of what you are already doing.
It isn’t about creating more content or campaigns. It’s about being smarter about how you market them.
